The Impact of Sex Trafficking and Prostitution on Community Health: Reducing Harm, Promoting Healing

Thursday, October 18, 2012
Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center
5:30 pm Welcome & Dinner | 6:00 pm Overview | 6:30 pm Conversation

Sex trafficking and the prostitution of children is a critical concern in the Twin Cities, with
Minneapolis named by the FBI as one of the top 13 U.S. cities for trafficking of juveniles. Intimately tied to poverty, abuse, and lack of choice, it is a complex issue that demands all community members not only become aware of the issue, but see what part they can play in prevention and healing.

The Northside Women's Space, the Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center, the Center for Integrative Leadership invite concerned citizens, congregations and clergy, policymakers, law enforcement, business owners, nonprofit service providers and other community leaders to a critical conversation around how North Minneapolis and other urban communities can reduce harm, promote healing, and take action to end sex trafficking in Minnesota.

This is part of the UROC Critical Conversations series and a continuation of a conversation series CIL kicked-off in May with a half-day symposium focused on human trafficking globally: FREEDOM HERE + NOW: Ending Modern Slavery

This conversation is free and open to the public, but your registration is requested to ensure we have adequate space and food. If you would like any help with the registration process you may contact UROC at 612-626-8762.

To request translation or a disability-related accomodation, please contact UROC at uroc@umn.edu or 612-626-8762 at least 1 week prior to the event.
